Alternatives to Urika

Post by Graham Russell » Mon Nov 07, 2016 6:55 pm

I'm in the process of investigating new speakers and a possible cable swap to Entreq. Entreq cables will not fit inside the LP12 so would need a new phono stage. The phono stages from Allnic get great reviews. Does anyone have experience of moving from Urika to something else? Is the new T-cable good enough for a high quality phono stage or are there alternatives that work with the LP12 and don't interfere with the suspension etc?

Thanks
Graham

Graham,
Have you listened to the Chord Music?

I have a vague memory of an Urika being used on a non LP12 TT. Extend the lead from the arm go the Urika and the Urika sitting on its own shelf.

Just a thought

James,
That totally defeats the object and design of the Urika.
Where would Graham's Radikal cable go ?

Chord isn't on my radar. The cables I currently have and the Entreqs have great synergy with the kit I'm using and considering in the future. I'm seeing positive comments in the Naim forum about Chord Music, but I've left that world behind me now :)

The cable for the motor would still go to the motor. The cable to the Urika would still go to the Urika.

I know it 'defeats' the design of the Urika and would need a fair amount of DIYing to work, but it is a solution to his situation if he wants to keep the Urika SQ.

I could be wrong but :smt018
I'm sure I've read that here isn't an option to use the Urika without the internal " tiddler " arm lead.
Cables would need to be very thick not to fit the conventional way I've seen a few pictures that Peter has done with some scary installs. 8) :smt023

Sadly the Entreq cables are very thick and definitely don't fit.

I think the T cable is perfect and a nice vintage, well looked after Linto would work perfectly.

At a push I could be persuaded to part with my set up (the very same one) as a straight swap if it were to help you out
Well Keeled :smt020

Oh well I tried
Can't tell by that link what scale the cables are.
If you've got a Linn arm :smt102 what about the Ekos SE mogami T cable into a Linto or Uphorik.
The lower loss the better before Phonostage.
Good luck dressing thicker cable than that Chord stuff.
