LP12 Top Plates

Post by FangfossFlyer » Mon May 15, 2017 8:58 am

Hi,

I am interested in the price of LP12 top plates.

Any body with the prices for:

- Linn standard top plate (c£170 I believe);
- Tiger Paw Khan;
- Tangerine Audio Karmen.

I believe the current Linn top plate includes a corner stud to firmly secure the motor corner of the top plate to the plinth - did this make any significant improvement?

Thanks,

Richard

Richard,
As far as I'm clued up my take is as follows.
Khan top plate around £800
Karmen top plate around £1400
As for the linn top plate both versions are still available studded and non studded.
The studded one came about as an easier fix for top plate vibration rattles less time consuming for fine fettling but realistically a non studded one like mine if fitted and fettled properly is every bit as good " perhaps better because the slightest over tightening of the stud kills the decks sound"
Also remember that at the time of stud introduction the only motor option was the old 24 pole AC unit.
Now with super silent Radikal motor I think motor vibration has been more or less eliminated.
Hope this helps. 8) :smt023

Is Hamish having the Khan and the Tangerine on demo? Good move for them if they do IMHO.

Hi Peter,

Yes, Hamish and David have both the Tiger Paw and Tangerine top plates on demo and I am going to have a dem of them both sometime soon.

I have parked the Tranquility for a while as my LP12 is currently having a new bearing and spindle with a few other bits (springs, cross-brace, mat, belt etc.)

Then I may go back to the Tranquility after a while but I am also keen to hear a Chord 4-5 pin DIN for my Supercap/Suplerline if ever one comes along :wink:

All the best on this sad day for all music lovers,

Richard

That's excellent and exactly the way it should be done Richard 8) Good to hear they are embracing some 3rd Party upgrades.

Talking of this, it's always possible to get a T or Music configured...........

Finally on the Tranquility, you may find my post #847 is of interest and helps you. Getting the best from the Tranquility is essential and does explain some of the variable results reported by some other retailers IMHO. http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread. ... #pid438746

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the link.. Very interesting.

I don't think I can exist trying the T / Music but one step at a time.

All the best,
