Still room for improvement?

Post by Spikes » Fri Feb 02, 2018 2:07 pm

Just wondering: can I still improve my LP12? The current setup is:
- Keel
- Ekos SE
- Tangerine Karmen top plate
- sKale weight
- Kandid cartridge
- Urika
- Radikal
- Fluted ebony CH plinth
- Tranquility
- standard Linn felt mat

The only thing I could think of was change the Kandid for an Atlas....
# Main room: LP12 (Ekos SE/Keel/Kandid/Radikal/Urika II/CH fl. ebony), ADSM Kat, 2200, 2x4200, 242, Electrocomp. ECG1, Cambridge CXUHD
# Bed room: Sneaky DSI, Komponent 104
# Garden: Sekrit DS, Monitor Audio CL50
# Study: Knekt Roomamp, Komponent 104

Fluted Stiletto? (I'd have one if the kidney raised enough money)

I’d be looking at your turntable support if you haven’t done so already

Not sure if I like the looks as much as I like my CH plinth :-)

Good point: currently using a Custom Design WMB1 which is a good fit to the LP12. I bought a Finite Element Pagode a while back. I still have it in the box, because it is way too large for my room. Would there be a better option that is not as huge as the Pagode?

Fab spec deck I'm a synergetic OCD nut and the things I would do would be put it back to all stock Linn.
Change the SE to an SE1 and that takes care of cosmetics and the old dodgy bias arrangement
Stainless steel top plate and tune the deck without cutting corners.
I've no reason fault the plinth at all :smt007
But I've no confidence with all the variables with third party bits Weights, Tranq etc.
In fact I would have gone Klimax Radikal and forgone the extra bits.
Most are my own personal reasons but I have very deep and coherent theories about my decisions and can assure you non are down to cost. 8) :smt023
"Cymbiosis"
Analogue Klimax LP12, Linn CD, Analogue Linn Amp, Kudos Speakers. 8) :smt023

Having seen it "in the flesh" as it were (at Peters) photos do not do it justice. Its far too "2001"ish than you expect

Firstly swap the Ekos SE and Keel for an Aro - with sKale and an Aro Keel :smt023 after that Klimax Radikal

Chord Music on the Urika would be wonderful and then a fluted Stiletto

Lyra Atlas would be good but the Lyra Kleos SL would be worth considering.

Currently Cymbiosis LP12 Woodsong Wenge, Klimax Radikal/Chord Sarum T, Keel/A, Khan, Tranquility, Urika/Chord SSA, Aro, sKale, Lyra Kleos SL - Sondek owner since 1982 - the rest is Naim, Chord and Kudos 8)

Actually I meant to say Lyra Etna not Kleos - but the Kleos SL is on my personal shortlist for Krystal replacement when the time is right.
