RCM and Record Cleaning

Post by The Kaptain » Sun May 04, 2014 10:43 am

There are a vast number of RCM's out there, and even more suggestions for fluids and brushes.

From suggestions on here (and elsewhere) the best VALUE seems to be:-

Okki Nokki (~£400)

Bio Ethanol from B&Q mixed 50% with distilled water (B&Q or Chemist)

Keith Monks DiscOvery record brush (~£54 Russ Andrews and others)

6 wash rotations (R L R L R L) followed by 2 or 3 rotations to the right on vacuum.

Put the record in a new inner (Sounds Wholesale or Covers33)

Hi, You might also try the BE at 60-70% on very dirty records, an add a few drops of surfactant such as ilfotol. Woks best if left to stand for about a minute or so, then use the brush. Rinse off after use, and then do a normal wash.

Brian,
I coat up with a paint brush work the fluid then vac off ASAP.
No need to add surfactants.
Keep things simple,Just get it on and get it off ASAP.

Hallo!
I'm a new comer, so cheers to everyone!
I have had for about 10 yrs a VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine on which I use l'Art du Son fluid.
Inner sleeves are MOFI, and I make use every now and then of a Zerostat, if needed.
All work very fine.
To check if static is gone (pardon me the "physical" reference) I simply thrust the hair on my arm: if they do raise getting close to vinyl , static charge is there.
If they don't, it is gone,
Zerostat, I have several times verified as above, works very efficiently.
But, it has to be used w/o the special plug that sparkles when pulling the trigger.
With it on, it is almost not working at all.
And that, as far as I know, it is not specified on the bag.
Just my knowledge

Furthermore, I'm using a Poly resealable outer sleeves.
And I've just discovered some of them (all belonging to the same shelve) are disintegrating on the edge, the one edge exposed to light. :smt017
Does anyone know of something similar?
I'd like to change them all, but I'm having troubles choosing the right one on line, as it is difficult evaluating the quality of them through photographs.
Any hint or help?

Andrea,
Just noticed your post.
I use poly outer covers and poly paper inner sleeves for all my vinyl.

I have been using http://www.soundswholesaleltd.co.uk/ for years.
Great fast service and the more you order the cheaper they get. :smt023

Jim, thanks but I'm looking for outer sleeves . . . besides, as for inner sleeves, I found very fit the MOFI paper rice . . they keep totally static free my records . . and even if there is one every now and then, that rebels, I shoot 'em with Milty Zerostat Gun
