I must add that I wipe every vinyl record with bioethanol before I play it, so volatility is important. Those that use propan-2-ol usually use it at 25% concentration. Comparison of polarities is illuminating.

25% propanol = 6.75
50% ethanol = 7.1
dipentene must be close to zero, which is why it is so good at dissolving oils and greases.

There is no solvent advantage in using ethanol over propanol at the concentrations mentioned. I use it because it is bio derived, and easy to get hold of.
seven (or more) carts, five (or six) Lenco's, four (whatever happened to 5?) VSSA amplifiers, three (well four then) Epos M5's (ah, that's what happened to 5) two Usher floorstanders and about 2000 records (vinyl and shellac).

I collect quite old records from various sources, even the municipal refuse centre, so I could (and do) expect to come across nearly anything on the record surface. Quite common is nasal splashes (or the remnants thereof) and insect excrement. I have needed some quite drastic cleaning regimes, so being armed with a variety of solvents is a good thing. Being a retired scientist and with a broad experience of most solvents has helped the cause. HTH

it's an old 'L. Bow', with added grease. Seems to work very well with sensible fluid recipes. :D
