What are you listening to July 2019?

Where would we be without the music?

2019 Blue Note 80 vinyl reissue - Originally released in 1974 it was flautist Humphrey’s breakout third album for Blue Note, working with the Mizell Brothers (who had recently hooked up with Donald Byrd to produce the trumpeter’s landmark album Black Byrd) to create a jazz-funk classic for the ages featuring the standout track “Harlem River Drive.” Humphrey’s alluring flute and breezy vocals paired with Larry Mizell’s compelling R&B jazz fusion compositions and production proved a winning combination that would lead to future collaborations on Humphrey’s albums Satin Doll and Fancy Dancer. Fine album 8)

Bobbi Humphrey - flute, vocals
Jerry Peters - piano, electric piano
Fonce Mizell - clavinet, trumpet, vocals
Freddie Perren - synthesizer, vocals
David T. Walker - guitar
Chuck Rainey - electric bass
Harvey Mason - drums
Stephanie Spruill - percussion
Chuck Davis - vocals
Larry Mizell - vocals, arranger, conductor
None foreign parts LP12 - Naim CD - Naim Amplication - Kudos Speakers.

Going through the new releases I found this, a soundtrack to a game (I think). Don’t know why I even looked at it but it features a couple of new tunes from Daniel Lanois...

Also has Rhiannon Giddens.
