CD released 1994 - First, a word about Wallace Roney. To play trumpet for THIS band, on a tribute to Miles Davis is a hell of a daunting task. He does an excellent job. His playing is lovely, and it's quite obvious that he did his homework. Especially daunting, had to be the live cuts of the Kind of Blue numbers "So What" and "All Blues". Again Roney stays true to the spirt of the tribute, while not simply aping Miles style, which would have been the easy thing to do. The rest of the band is the great 60's quintet in all it's glory. One shouldn't approach this album looking for improvements on the originals, that's not the point and that's not what happens. Instead, allow yourself to enjoy a loving tribute from 4 musicians to whom Miles might well have been the most important person musically in their lives. 8)

Herbie Hancock – piano, calliope
Wayne Shorter – tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone
Wallace Roney – trumpet
Ron Carter – bass
Tony Williams – drums
Great album Dan have i said before I seen this very band live?. 8) :smt023

Joe Henderson - In ‘n’ Out

More cracking hard bop / post bop from Hendo.
The title of that album always reminds me of A Clockwork Orange. :smt017
Mmm...yes, I know what you mean

Blue Note 80 vinyl reissue - Flutist Bobbi Humphrey found wide success with Blacks and Blues (1973), her breakout third album for Blue Note, working with the Mizell Brothers (who had recently hooked up with Donald Byrd to produce the trumpeter’s landmark album Black Byrd) to create a jazz-funk classic for the ages featuring the standout track “Harlem River Drive.” Humphrey’s alluring flute and breezy vocals paired with Larry Mizell’s compelling R&B jazz fusion compositions and production proved a winning combination that would lead to future collaborations on Humphrey’s albums Satin Doll and Fancy Dancer. Great album 8)
