Cheap it ain't Linky Thingie
Bright arc that is the career of John Coltrane, 1963 marks a point of transition between past jazz masterpieces and future work which would transcend the boundaries of the music itself. That year's recorded output shows movement in many directions: a look back at the past, continued examination of a familiar repertoire, exploration of more traditional formats and a look forward at compositions and approaches that would further extend the reach of jazz.

Clive,
Great price for the cd set the vinyl one is way overpriced but I'm not sure I'll bother I'd have been much happier if it had been some new discoveries but it seems just to be a compilation selection from that year.

Indeed, Jim, me too. I think I have all these titles on other discs. I notice that some tracks are taken from the tapes which were released earlier this year too. Record company cashing in, I think.
