Yes, I've read – very late (this day) – your story.
You are lucky!

Komri with a front end as the late KDS are just mind blowing… for my ears of course.
Just can't see a reason to upgrade anything today 😊

A big thanks to the Komri guy too, who worked on them ❤️

I'm only at the beginning of the replacement process…
When the second pair of Komri will be shipped, they will stand somewhere in the room – backstage – to be organ donor of some sort 😉

Good to hear your Komris will be ok. Hope it isn’t too expensive.

There’s I guy I know in my part of the world called Glyn with Komris. I haven’t heard his system, but those who have say it’s one of the best they’ve heard. He’s just changed from Klimax Twins to Dynamik Solo 500s. He’s put a photo on the Linn Sondek LP12 and Linn - Hifi for Enthusiasts and Music Lovers Facebook pages.

Well...... I'm sad to say my Komris have suffered a failure - BUGGER !!!
Even though the standby function worked flawlessly, I usually powered them down after a listening session. I've enjoyed them for around 5yrs during which time they've worked perfectly. However a couple of weeks ago one Komri would not power up - display dead. I proceeded to troubleshoot the issue. I found the 10A fuse on one of the SMPS's had blown. Visual inspection of said board showed obvious damage - a vaporised diode. I (wrongly as it transpired) substituted the failed board with equivalent board from the working Komri, but no joy, no blown fuses but no life from the Komri. I put the SMPS back in the previously working Komri, but now it was dead !!! No blown fuse, just no longer working - DAMN !!
Deeper examination of the first failed Komri module revealed the root cause - a blown non-electroytic cap adjacent to one of the output devices on one of the servo bass boards indicated a DMOS device failure? - double DAMN !!
The modules arrived with Nigel at Tysons last Friday PM. Hopefully the SMPS's can be fixed, but the bass board? - who knows.
If anyone has Komri servo bass board knocking around that they've no use for ? :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Dear All,

Long time no see/post …. Having been active some years ago on LINN Forum with „Komri - still alive“ I am happy that there is a group here that is very interested in this special speaker.

The last years I found my Komris more and more often on the way to LINN for repair. The last months I sent my electric modules to be repaired again 2 times (some KEuro spent) but I am still not back to listen. Finally it now ended that my dear Dealer took it to repair himself - hope it works.

Major in this situation was that LINN did not take them for repair (although having had them shortly in for repair 2x and fully charged) - It seems they are now really OUT to repair Komris. That means we have to find some very talented persons that want to take over this repair business. Does anybody know a skillful and serviceoriented company that is willing to be the service-specialists for Komris? Now that there is officially no more support from LINN? I think it can be a sound business for a loudspeaker-repair-specialist to take this ! I would be happy to have them ;-)

Thank you

Yes hamburg, I totally agree ! If only a company could become experts in repairing our beloved Komris.

The issue with Komris is that the servo bass boards are unique to Linn. The power supplies can be repaired and tested, but the bass boards are a different animal, in that whereas a repair can likely be done, actually testing the repair without the facilities that Linn has/had, is not nearly so easy. Nigel at Tysons advises me that my Komri modules will be examined over the next couple of weeks and so I will of course report back when I have more news.

Hi Sound Hound,
So Nigel is on it … with his own people or with LINN? I would be happy if we could still ask LINN to repair - and charge man & material - I guess they know best what to do ;-)
For now I will wait if mine will be back on track soon or if I need to find more helping hands.
Have a nice weekend

Unfortunately Linn are resolute in no longer supporting Komri in any way shape or form, and so its purely down to Nigels technicians. I would imagine Linn still must have the capability to test Komri modules and so it would be great if they would give this facility to a suitably equipped dealer, such as Tyson's, who otherwise would not have the ability to fully test repaired faulty Komri modules. Somehow I don't hold out much hope for this to happen. Having been a Linn devotee for pretty much the last 50yrs I do feel slightly agrieved, but there's little if anything I can do about support for a product ending. It's just that when, in a case like this, where it's purely a matter of repairing a PCB, I do find it to be a real shame that Linn refuse to assist.

The power supplies in Komris are very similar if not exactly the same as those in the AV5125 amp. The Dynamik upgrade was available for the AV5125. I'm sure quite a few people upgraded their 5125s to Dynamik. I wonder where the old PSU's ended up ??
Think I'll put a "wanted" post on the Emporium section and see if anything turns up.

The two power supply boards of the Komri amplifier module have the Linn part number PCAS 254.
In my modules, the boards have the designation PCB 254/L4.

These power supply units are also installed in the AV 5125 and AV 2250 power amplifiers and in the Classik Movie 1/0. If a power supply unit in the Komri module is defective and cannot be repaired, you could look for these devices.

Last December, a power supply board in the amplifier module of my right-hand Komri produced a slight mains hum, which could only be heard in the lower of the two low basses. By re-soldering a few dry solder joints in the input of the power supply boards, I was able to eliminate the mains hum. Thanks to Newton John, who reported on the possibility of re-soldering in this thread.

As far as I know, there were no dynamic upgrades for the PCB 254.

Hi Peter P,

Great info - Thankyou ;- )

My Komri boards are also PCB 254/L4. I'm still awaiting news from Nigel & Paul at Tysons.
An interesting fact is that I know for certain that there was a Dynamik upgrade for the AV5125 - there've been a couple of 5125s for sale recently on Ebay with photos showing the dynamik upgrade label.
Also interesting is that - before I aquired my Komris, the modules had been up to Linn due to an issue which was fixed by replacing a couple of electrolytics on an amp board. The same caps were also replaced on the other 3 amp boards. At the same time all 4 PSUs were replaced with, and I quote "the latest spec power supplies". As the repair was carried out well after the introduction of the Dynamik PSU I can only assume the PSUs fitted were Dynamik ?!! This said, the boards in my Komris are still PCB 254/L4 and so begs the Q is the Dynamik board a 254/L4 variant ??
I can understand Linn not making it publicly known that the Dynamik was available for Komris because they'd likely be reluctant to give the usual 5yr guarantee due to potential issues with the servo bass boards ??

Once again - TBC

Hi Sound Hound,

Whenever Linn has changed the technology of a power supply, it has also changed the name of the circuit board.

Examples:

C4200 power amplifier:
Original Chakra Power supply : PCB 499
Dynamic Power supply: PCB 754

KDSM/3:
Dynamik Power supply: PCB 699
Utopik Power supply: PCB 1065

If 5125 power amplifiers are labeled “Powered by Dynamik”, you should have a look at the PCB number of the power supply.

All understood ! This makes perfect sense. However, it leaves me wondering what Linn meant when they said they'd upgraded the PSUs to the latest spec ?!

My 4 AV5125 have:
2x PCAS254/L2R4 original PS
1x PCAS754/L1R4 Dynamik PS
1x "PCAS254/SER" sticker, but looks equal to Dynamik PS. Think was a PS repair by switching it to newer one.

Main 2: Karik - Pekin - Kairn - 3xLK100 - Isobarik
Not used: Kaber - Helix

Today I came across an old Dynamik upgrade information (~ 2009) which confirms that the PCAS 754 (Dynamik power supply) could be used for all three devices AV 5125, AV 2250 and Movie 1/0.

If there was no official dynamic upgrade for the Komri, I am still hoping for a Utopik upgrade. If necessary, you might have to resort to one for one of the power amplifiers mentioned above.
