I could (and have done) walk round that city all day. It gets very busy now especially when they have cruise ship change over days there. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks, I always wonder what is going through their head as I take the photograph, are they thinking, "I feel like a mouse for dinner" or "Hey look, that guy's got a Nikon" ? :smt017 :smt005

Saw these spectacular bronze sculptures by Antony Gormley and Archie left his mark on a few of them.

From 1940-1942 Liverpool was heavily Blitzed from sustained bombing by the German Luftwaffe. Mountains of rubble were transported from the city for use in sea defences.

At the same time across the Mersey. If I had turned to look out to the mouth of the river there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

Image

This year we have had to do flat walks since SWMBO was poorly. One of our favourites is along the top of the Wirral and down the Mersey from New Brighton when you get to the ferry terminal (yes across the Mersey) you get the best view of Liverpool. When cruise ships are there they hide the three graces. Jim I was told the rubble on the beach was where they dumped the rubble of the building destroyed by German bombings, not sure whether that’s right or not. Note you put it in to say it was.

Excellent, I feel like I've been with you on the trip.

The first photo with the bronze man scared me though, "Who's the lad all covered in mud?" I thought.
Then I realized it was the Another Place exhibit.

When the tide comes in the Bronze statues are immersed by the sea and cannot be seen. They come to life as the tide recedes. As you rightly said they are called Another Place and they are modelled from the sculptor’s Sir Antony Gormley’s naked torso. There are 100 strategically positioned at various positions of 2 miles along the Crosby shore between Waterloo and Blundellsands.
They were originally displayed at exhibitions but caused offence so in 2007 the council decided to erect them along the beach. It proved a hit as tourism excelled, on the down side they now charge you to park (it was always free) more tourist rip off. 8)

The “Angel Of The North” is another of Sir Antony Gormley’s famous sculptures.
