[SOLD] LINN Keilidh and Polymer Bases

Due to Peter "persuading" me that a pair of Kudos Super 20's that would be a good idea (which they certainly are) I now have my beloved Keilidh's for sale. Bought new by myself in May 2000 from Peter these are the later version with the '3 bar' tweeter.

They are complete with the instruction book, all nuts bolts and spikes, even the funny pronged tool to undo the crossover nuts.
There are no grill cloths or the rubber fixing bands (available on eBay should you want them) There are only 6 of the 8 blanking plugs for the Polymer stands (I think the hoover had eaten them years ago)

I have slightly modified them over time. There is a Russ Andrews Felt Focus Ring on each Tweeter (easily removable should you wish)

The Crossover Capacitors have been replaced with Clarity Caps and hard wired in a single wire configuration. That gave an immediate increase in musicality and dynamic range.

The drive units are in excellent condition (ie no finger prodding damage) have had the old gaskets removed and re sealed with the Silicon Sealant Cymbiosis recommends. See HERE for more information.

The cabinets are in excellent condition and the wood has naturally darkened over the years with no obvious damage with no obvious damage to the veneer (see the attached images a full size to judge for yourself) and have always been in a smoke pet and child free home. There is a little paint missing from one of the tweeters, but that shows up in the flash photo far more than it does in 'real life' and I have never been tempted to 'touch it in'.

The Polymer Base also fit the LINN Kaber's

A lovely pair of Keilidhs Mr Onion. I too have Keilidhs which I recently converted to active mode. I have also changed the tweeters to Hiquphon tweeters. Can I ask why you have different coloured speakers connections? I ask because when I converted to active the tweeter cables appeared to be reversed on the crossover (red cable wired to black connection on the crossover and vice verse for the black). If have tried reversing the speakers from the amp but can’t hear much difference.

On a seperate note, are your new speakers an improvement on the Keilidhs? I do love my Keilidhs.

Lovely pair James.
There can't be a more mint and mollycoddled pair out there really fresh and super cared for.
Too cheap on the polymer bases though people will pay the whole price just to get them.
Beautiful passive termination job on the binding posts too no choice but the most optimum connection variation.
Miss these and miss out.

@ Jim Thanks I think they are as near mint as you will find anywhere.

@ Bill. The tweeter connections should be reversed at the crossover/activ connector. I think its down to phase shift or something.

re the terminals. I have replaced the LINN crossover nuts at the unused positions with hex nuts that I have then covered with a plastic, erm, cover. Prevents accidental shorting and just leaves the 'live' connectors exposed. Hot to tweeter, cold to Bass with hard wired links replacing the LINN linking plates.

I have always loved my Keilidh's too, but with the improvements I was doing to the LP12 they were becoming the weakest link. When Peter offered me a 3 yr old pair of Super 20's at a price I couldn't refuse, I didn't refuse it.

Thanks for the reply. I understand your connectors now. I agree that the price of the bases is too cheap. They are like hens teeth and you would get a lot more for them. Good luck with sale and let’s hope they go to a good home.

Ah, Keilidhs they where my first pair of Linn speakers. Absolutely loved them, especially when they where aktiv with three Klouts!

Good luck on the sale James! Kudos is the way to go I guess, if you need to replace your Linn legacy loudspeakers and would like to keep the box count down!
