silkie wrote: Sat Sep 28, 2024 2:25 pm Seen a couple of mentions that the Kudos 20a and 10a have been retired? Do we know if Kudos has any plans to refresh them or are they just focusing on the Titan's now?

Looking at the new Linn 119 and 150 the Kudos stuff just looks more appealing to me now. Specifically as replacements for my M140 and Katan's.
I only heard the s20s were discontinued, not sure about the 10s.
I would say the 150s are a pretty good alternative. Certainly better than the 140s. Just going on look, design, new drivers and the numbers. Will hopefully get a listen in time, just out of interest.

The S20's have had to be discontinued as the company who made the cabinets is no longer supplying them.

As I understand it rather than look for a new supplier Kudos are 'clean sheeting' a new speaker (just a rumour at this stage)

Interesting stuff. The S10a's are a fair chunk of chain more than the new 119's. I need to listen to both before choosing which replace the Katan's. Just need to get some demo's in.

Thanks for your opinions on the rumours.

Just in my experience I’ve had M109s and have upgraded at the time to Kudos X3.
I was watching a pair of 109s being built and was gobsmacked to see the amount of electronics and little plastic connector blocks inside.
I’d read of issues with the plugs internally coming adrift and then the discontinuation of the availability of drive units so decided to look elsewhere.
The Kudos design and construction is in a different league entirely and much more minimalist with very high quality components and drivers.
The crossovers in Kudos are much less complicated but much better built with no internal plugs etc.
Below is a peek at the internals of a 109 and below that is a picture of the Kudos two way crossover.
Obviously listening is the key but construction and longevity is important to me.

Thanks for posting pics!

The 109 is a 3-way design so would be normal that the crossover has a higher component count in order to integrate the 3 drivers. The plastic connection, im guessing, are there to permit the dealer to convert these to Exakt?

You're welcome.
Yes I get that but component quality and connectivity is very poor.
The more it goes through the more lossy and corrupted the path.
Different leagues entirely.

Yes. I did the conversion on my M140's. Involved swapping the jumpers. Obviously the Kudos don't do that, they have separate connections for passive/active.

As an Kudos owner and having had M140, Keltiks and Keilidhs before, I don’t know if the build quality of the Linn crossover is on a lower rung then the Kudos variant. I’m not debating SQ, but as for as longevity goes I don’t recall any complaints about the Linn crossover on the various forum I scrutinized over the years.

Secondly the linn crossover is made to be easily switched between passive and active, so the connectors make sense, sure the solution on my Super20a is more user friendly but imagine this on a 4 way system in a feature that is hardly being used in a couple of times in the lifetime of the unit.

Exaktly that convenience over quality. :smt023
