Powering Equipment

You mean there's more to HiFi than a LP12?

Powering Equipment

Like I said over there ---> its survey time. A simple question with (I suspect) numerous correct answers. Tick the relevant box and post why you do what you do do.

Mine is on 24/7 except for my CD Spinner which (having a valve in an enclosed space) gets very warm even after a couple of hours use. Thus it warms up VERY quickly and won't self combust.

The solid state side of things stays on all the time as it takes the best part of a week to come 'on song'

.
When i go away I switch it all off by removing plugs from the wall. Otherwise the Klimax Radikal and Twin are left on. I leave the KK/1 in stand by. I get the LP12 spinning for around 15 mins before using it. I take the KK/1 out of standby when I switch the LP12 on. I hope all that makes sense ........... :smt023

I may try that sometime...but in the interest of keeping my electric bill within reason, I start out with the volume low and let a cd or two play while the electrostatic speakers get a chance to warm up...

I heartily admit that the last few hours of music always sounds the best...usually it's at the end of a 12 hour listening session. :smt023 :smt020 :smt023 :smt020 Then everything is powered off. :smt015
Original 1978 Fluted Afromosia LP12, Ekos 2, Lyra Kleos SL and lots of other stuff from the 70's that still work fine.

I'm in the 24/7 camp, but as I mentioned on another thread, Naim amplifiers, especially the preamp, take a long time to give of their best. Curiously, the new streamers have a standby option, but I don't use it. That's not because it sounds any better (there's an SMPS which continues to power essential circuits), but habit really.

I noticed that the sound always seemed better later at night after a good listening session. I mentioned this in passing to my dealer. He explained that was because the grid settled and there were less fluctuations in the supply. He then gave me a power conditioner to try. Never looked back. It now sits at the front of my system powering the amps and DS.

Indeed, late night listening is the best thanks to less activity on the grid.

But just to be clear, that's a different topic from keeping equipment powered up 24/7.

Since we're on that topic, I certainly agree with you, I've been using a isolation transformer/conditioner for the last 30 years, very happy with the sound quality improvement at any hour of the day. :smt020

Your correct it was off topic but your comments about the system sounding better after a long session resonated with me.

Sorry to be a newb on the off topic subject, but what do a power conditioner do presumably? :smt017
