Great personal travelogue in the late 19C manner. Short chapters, great for dipping in and out, lovely drawings of Follies too.

I have just finished reading Moby’s Then It Fell Apart. I thought of him as a God fearing geek but the exact opposite is the truth. Someone who went on stage at a political fund raiser took the main Mike and asked if there was anyone who would sell him some drugs and if they could, to come to him at the side of the stage.
I’m also rereading Catcher in the Rye, which I read as a teenager.
It’s a good thread and I’ve always got a pile of books waiting, next up is one I saw recommended on Richard E Grant’s Write Around The World, the non fiction Naples ‘44. A British intelligence officers recording of life in Naples in 1944 after the Second World War.
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
Added to my list of books to read, a list that never seems to reduce.
On a side note, I tend to read whilst the boss is watching TV. I use earplugs but the other night she was watching the hairy bikers on Route 66 and she nudged to ask what the music was because she thought she recognised it. So get the picture open plain/deserts of the USA. There is only one band who could provide the sound track, Calexico. You may think you have never heard them but nearly every time a scene from the desert or western USA comes on I’m sure they are the go to band for the music.

The is one of the funniest books I've read in a few years. If you read a lot of detective books or watch the TV shows then those books/shows all have a unique detective who is a loner, has love problems, has a drink problem, has a history etc, etc, This has every cliche written in with added turbo power. Not a big read but a real enjoyable one for myself.

Finished this Monday. Easy read and interesting story about Jarvis Cocker’s “arrest” after his performance with Michael Jackson at the Brits.
Started this after asking my daughter is she had seen his programme started on Sunday. It started in one of my favourite places in Italy, Amalfi.

I’ve read a few and half way through the Flea autobiography. The first chapter shocked me because he says he was listening to the Unthanks sing and the beauty of their voices made him burst out crying. Not something I expected from a full blown rocker. The bottom of the pile is the fourth in a series by Ray Celestin. I have mentioned them before they are fiction based on fact around jazz musicians and jazz music. The last one featured heavily around Louis Armstrong. I haven’t read this one and I think it moves to LA. The books give you a feel of what the “scene” was like and life in general around the times of the stories. Recommend them as it put some light on the musicians lives.

About 1/3 of the way through this and I'm enjoying it. The style is very different to Harry Potter but it works in its own right.
They are good. The TV series was good as well.
