Day Trip to Rearsby

Post by Mr Onion »

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Rearsby
A somewhat cold day, we took care all the way, the traffic was its usual madness
The A46 was up to its usual tricks, but we still arrived on time(ish)
Rearsby's easy to find if you have it in mind
And the wheels went around

Don't you recall the thrill of it all, as we walked on through the door way
Wayne emptied the car, although it wasn't that far
he carried it all inside for us
Mrs O and me had a nice cup of tea as Peter planned his magic
Drifting away we could have listened all day
And the LP12's went around

The Radikal was first to have everything checked
the board was removed in a jiffy
the replacement went in
without any din
And the LP12's went around

Then Peter started to delve inside the LP12
to remove the motor and cables
He plugged it all in
and I heard the music begin
and MY LP12 went around

(a long way) After Fiddlers Dram

Yes, today we went to Cymbiosis to get the Rad 2 fitted. A nice trip, for a change, and the best time we have ever made, just under an hour door to door each way.

The new board is very impressive with the processor chip seemingly not that much smaller than than that on the PC tower I built last year. Peter (as always) talked through the new parts as he was fitting them, and explained the differences in the LED behaviour between the two.

Checked and rechecked the bounce as he always does, examined the DV XX (pronounced excellent) and changed the belt as the old one was a bit stiff (ooer missis) and it was ready for the dem room.

All I can say is   :o :o :o :o :mrg:

Right from the off I was gobsmacked with a massive stupid grin. At the price its a bargain for what it gives. I'm too tired to re assemble it tonight so I have it all to look forward to tomorrow.

Thanks to Peter, Wayne, Phil and Alison as well as Mrs O for doing the driving
James

Congrats James
A well worthwhile update I imagine you had a good look at the old motor fixings.
Did you go for dim or bright.
I kept my Klimax one bright but it’s a different lens arrangement I thought dim was especially for the Akurate box. 8)

Dim (to match my brain  )

Yes, the changes in motor are very significant and obvious. The new belt has a different feel to the old one too. Peter (as always) marked the outside to make life easier.

Double black 45rpm.

First album playing at home on the 'new' LP12.

The noise floor is now on basement level 5, everything is clearer and more precise. Notes start and stop with less hangover (not that I was aware of any before) Far easier to follow (or rather get drawn into the music like I was hypnotised)

Total no brainer

Welcome to the Radikal 2 club, James! You’re right that it represents great VFM for the improvement it brings. That and the Karousel too, of course.

That London Grammar album will sound really good too. The bass on the opening track, Hey Now, makes the house vibrate!

Makes next doors house vibrate if you do it properly

I'm just glad this happened earlier in the week otherwise I might have got the blame :smt005

The Eurofighter Typhoon is awesome - better even than a top spec LP12!

Especially when doing the canon in the 1812 or maybe AC/DC's 'Fire Your Guns'

Well its 10 days/240 hours of running in later and all I can say is xss03 xss05

I am astounded with the improvement and its just gets better and better. Familiar recordings sound like totally new ones, and the surface noise has dropped and dropped. How does it do that?

Less HiFi more music, as it should be.

Total no brainer. Sell the kids, put the 'significant other' on ebay, whatever just get your radikal updated, you won't regret it

The sound is so good it's making me play more music, even when I feel too ill (I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing but so far I haven't wrecked it  )
