The new LP12-50 sits on a new, Linn-designed plinth, machined from highly compressed layers of beech, with sonic properties Tiefenbrun describes as “phenomenal”. Gone is the traditional rocker switch for power and speed control, and instead there’s a solid aluminium button, flush with the top plate. The hinges, also machined from aluminium, forgo typical dust-cover behaviour (ie, locked in the up position, or shut) and keep it at the angle you desire. The switch, the hinge and other subtle aesthetic changes have been beautifully conceived by LoveFrom.
Limited Edition 250 Units £50k each.

I am always happy to see Linn continue to build the LP12, but I think I may prefer the strait edges/corners from days of old.
Although after 45 years of looking at mine, I'm sure I have a bias.
Original 1978 Fluted Afromosia LP12, Ekos 2, Lyra Kleos SL and lots of other stuff from the 70's that still work fine.
How I hate limited editions as they come across to me as a marketing scheme to tempt fans, generate a lot of noise and some relatively easy, in many cases, quick revenue!
But hey, that’s business!

Not sure about the curvy edges, but new hinges sound very interesting, especially if they are available for us mere mortals who haven't got £50k

The team developed a custom hinge, which allows the dust cover to float at any angle without resistance.
These components are machined in-house by Linn.
Hope it’s interchangeable without new holes.

Good lord, that must have taken thousands of R+D hours to come up with .........
Completely underwhelmed to say the least. Hinges look good but that will come down to price for me e.g. if they want many hundreds of quid for a set of hinges they can get ............

Not interested in the hinges but I am in the plinth… hope it doesn’t destroy the sound of the LP12 by moving into, what I call, a more ‘dry’ Linn digital sound.
Looks like the new plinth has a curve in it so it’s not much use to existing LP12 owners. So, I imagine it is unlikely to be available as a separate item unless there is another version made?

What an awful mess they’ve made a complete arse of it.
They’ve done everything engineering wise on the cheap and simple rounded corners.
Remember the first Stiletto plinth with the round corner at the arm board it got shredded for it.
If they were going to do something special I’d have expected a replica of an early one with all new inside.
If the hinges are the only klimax upgrade that’ll do me.
It looks like a toy town Karikature.

Methinks a replica of an early one with the original parts inside might be quite a nice turntable.
Oh wait, I think I have one of those around here somewhere...

Interesting, but I don't think the combination of sharp corners and rounded edges quite works, particularly around the arm board - that's a big gap for things to fall into.
The lid/badge and hinges might be an interesting upgrade if available separately, though I still think the best lid badge was the 1970s/80s era.

I can’t imaging which retailers would buy one to demonstrate. It would be a lot of working capital tied up in a limited edition product and some of those retailers will have had a bad experience with the Naim Solstice limited edition turntable, which seems to have proved hard to sell after the initial enthusiasm. Maybe Linn aims to sell it through boutique outlets like Harrods?
I would imagine most will probably end up the the far east

I’d love to be wrong for the sustainability of the company but I’ll stick my neck out and say I don’t think they will sell 250 of them.
I think this monstrosity is a real slap in the face.
Naim did a fab job with the Nait 50
I expected at least Linn to do something as a nod to originality with perhaps a vintage looking deck with the good bits inside.
But this rounded off effort looks like a Karkature.

At last there might be hinges that hold the lid up I’m on my third set.
I never take the lid off. “ unless being fettled obviously that was the point “

It might damaged not being in its proper place.
2
It has a duty of reducing any acoustic feedback.
3
It stops annoying chatter from the pickup at very close proximity.

If it was meant to be kept on then it would bloody well stay up so you can change the record safely
