A man told me a long time ago that if it was meant to taken on and off it would have a handle in the middle.
If it was meant to be kept on then it would bloody well stay up so you can change the record safely

The hinges, also machined from aluminium, forgo typical dust-cover behaviour (ie, locked in the up position, or shut) and keep it at the angle you desire.
Thinking about it, I'm a bit dubious this is a good idea.
Imagine you set the lid 1 inch above the down position, even if the hinge itself is strong enough, that is a lot of force to apply to the screws holding them to the base, be a shame if it ripped the threads out on your 50K turntable.

Common sense should prevail it’s either up or down no need for anything else.
I just read what I said.

I’ve never experienced this problem on either of the LP12s I’ve owned (touches wood). I’ve had the current hinges since 1996 or thereabouts.
Indeed, I've never had the lid try to move on me without my explicit order, I replaced the lid when I purchased the Ekos 2 around 2000...so about 23 years of trouble free Linn hinge service.
Original 1978 Fluted Afromosia LP12, Ekos 2, Lyra Kleos SL and lots of other stuff from the 70's that still work fine.
The Grand Old Duke of York
He had a Sondek 50
and he lifted the lid all the way up
and it stayed there, how nifty.
And when it was up it was up
and when it was down it was down
and when it was only half way up
it stayed there as well, yes really
(well, it almost scans)

I agree with CJ, it looks like a easy change with the stock hinges
seeing the hinge tongue still in the vertical position makes me wonder if these are friction hinges (or photographic licence)

I would have done it like this, with rounded plinth and lid corners – more distinctive (different from the standard LP12), and more in keeping with the Apple design ethos.
LP12 (Tiger Paw Stratos, sKale; Karousel, Keel, KRadikal, Ekos SE, Exakt 2, Lyra Etna SL); Klimax NG DSM; Exakt Katalyst Akubariks.
Great picture mod Vincent.
I’d have thought maybe only rounding one side of the Keel too and leave where I’ve circled square.
All akademik now they’ve burnt the cakes.

Thats a much better look Vincent, although I agree with Jim, squared corners on the armboard next to the top plate would make it look even better

If the plinth is laminated beech, I can’t help thinking of the Booplinth, which was similarly laminated, but with layers of bamboo. I wonder how that would compare?
I assume the top plate of the LP12-50 is machined like the Tangerine Karmen. Does anyone know? This I suspect would contribute significantly to any sound improvement. I wonder if Linn will offer a square cornered version as an upgrade for conventional LP12 plinths?
I agree, looks much better. When are you getting Head Hunted by LINN?
