Death of The WAM?

Post by Billz »

This is really a message for the admin team. With the death of The WAM just a matter of time, I am surprised that this forum has not offered the Linn members of The WAM a haven. There is several posts on the WAM directing folk here but unless you have an LP12 it is not really an alternative.

Not really asking you to take us on, just surprised you haven’t taken the advantage to gain more members.

I am a member here but not logged on for a long while. I really need to update my signature as I no longer have any of the equipment listed below.
The man with no Naim.

Main System: Linn Selekt Edition/Organic Power Amp - K400 - Akudorik (passive) + SVS3000 Sub.
Second System: Linn SekritDSM- K200 - Kans mk2.

Everyone is welcome and individual topics for different kit including LP 12 and the Digital stuff is provided.
All it takes is participation and a light attitude.
There have been hints left on there but that’s a public choice.
We have no beef with WAM and indeed the more info out there the better but it’s being able to find it.
Another forum with 50 members clubs won’t allow one called LP12 so that’s that.
We are a very civilised and most have many years of experience and started here because of Linn changing the rules then closing down.
So we won’t have any other cross forum debate it’s here or there. :smt023
Everyone play nice. :smt020

Interestingly I was just on the Linn Docs site and they have already added a link to the Maverik forum Linn thread. Look at the bottom left here: https://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Products

You would think that the lack of any connection between Linn and that forum and the much greater efficacy (plus longevity) of this site, they would have added it too. If they know of Maverik, they must know of this one.

Main (all Linn): 80's LP12 (w/ Karousel, Kore, Radikal 1, Trampolin 2, Akito 1, Adikt), AEDSM, AExaktbox ((w/ Katalyst, Utopik), 2x AV2250/D, Ninka (w/ OW2 tweeters, polymer stands).
Secondary: Yamaha WXAD-10, Linn Majik-I (original LK model), Focal Chora 806 + a Panasonic TV and Sony Blu-Ray player
Others: Yamaha NX-N500; Yamaha MusicCast 50

Interestingly on the Maverick site there's a similar discussion. Some clickers see Maverick listed, some see HiFi Kabin instead. Me, I see HiFi Kabin when I click the link (even with a CTRL+F5)

It looks like not only the forum has gone the way of the parrot, the whole website is gone? I'm surprised about that, it seems rather uhm amateurish?

Yes, welcome all new members!

With the recent increase in members I am looking forward to a much more interesting and less predictable KAOTM this month and going forward!

But it is back again now but the Linn section is very quiet - better off here.

Yeah, I noticed. Now FOMO is hitting me bigtime. I like the conversations here better, but I like the more modern forum better. This one is a bit more chaotic to my eyes. But since it is friendlier, I'll probably stay here.

Also I don't like that there still is no explanation about the forum coma.

Yeah, I did notice your post. It might make a difference, so I'm trying it now.

I guess what I miss the most is the clever way the WAM forum was showing me the post I last read within a thread. Here the whole thread shows up, but I have to find out where I left last time.

Also, reactions are nice. The likes, upvoting, etc for a post.

@The Kaptain you may remember I made a similar comment to @dikki re jumping to first unread post. I now use the little red icon WHEN I REMEMBER. What was so nice about the WAM forum was that this was the default action when clicking of the thread title rather than taking you to the first post (not something you need to do very often). I understand that this simply may not be possible on this forum and if so hey-ho - but if it was it would be so much better.

I am on another completely unrelated forum which has just gone through a similar process of Phoenix from the Flames. On that initially there was no option for liking a post but the admins found an add on to enable this feature. Might be similar available for here.

Please take these comments in the way they are meant. We appreciate greatly the hard work you put in and hope to make this forum better and maybe your life easier!

Yes I do recall, but as I think I said at the time, the software is built that way to give you the option of going to the first or latest post. There is no extension available that will change that function (and to be honest I doubt it would be possible to make one)

Regarding 'likes'. There is only one approved extension available but this caused issues when I tried it a few years ago. There are a couple in development which may prove to be better once all the bugs have been ironed out.

Absolutely - not a big issue. The times I get caught out is when I am swapping between different forums (for different hobbies) which look very similar but work subtly different.

I'll PM you. I was writing it here, and then I noticed the PM suggestion.

Now, I’ve got used to it, I think I prefer not having to worry about how I should react to posts with likes, etc.

Also, it’s good not to get that feeling you’ve said something wrong if no one likes your post.
