Posts going missing.

Post by timster »

It seems that if a reply to a thread coincides with another, one of them goes missing.
Is there any way this can be fixed? I have had this happen twice now, and the original post has gone, not even stored so it can be reposted. I don't always get the 'new posts' notification in time either.
Could at least what was written be cached rather than deleted?
Thank you Kap'n

If you post an answer to a topic, but someone else answers before you, then there is the following warning (that is all too easy to miss) to let you know that someone else has posted and you might want to revise your reply.
At least one new post has been made to this topic. You may wish to review your post in light of this.
It can be turned off, but do others find it useful or not. Time for a poll to see.

Yes, but the post goes missing, that's the problem.

Only if you go off of the page, if you scroll down the page then your post will still be there with the Submit button.

Sorry I'm not being clear. I do hit the submit, I don't go off page, but if someone else has in the meantime posted, mine isn't and disappears. Hit reply again and I'm faced with having to type it all again (if I could be bothered).

If one posts and presses submit at almost the same time as someone else the first submitted will show on your posting page.
You can then just scroll down and hit submit again and it’ll force the post.
The only way you can loose the post you’ve typed is either you leave the page or refresh the page.

That shouldn't happen, your post should remain in the posting window. I wonder if there is a conflict with an extension. I'll have to investigate further

EDIT:- what device and browser are you using?

I don't think it's there but then again I may not have scrolled down enough. I'll try and remember that next time.

It should work perfectly. iThings can be a little bit more flaky at times, especially if you don't use Safari
timster wrote: Sat Apr 13, 2024 11:55 am I may not have scrolled down enough.
That could well be the cause as your phone Browser window is quite small compared to a laptop/desktop when it is more noticeable.

OK. Whether I remember next time is another matter. Come to think of it it may have been mentioned before!
Is there a way the system can prompt or automatically repost in these cases? There must be a log of concurrent 'submit' commands, so it could trap this somehow?

I'm afraid not. The concurrent submit commands are only stored in a short term memory and not written to the database, so there is no way to interrogate them.

I'll look at trying to make the message more visible, red text perhaps

Strange.
The same thing happened yesterday but there was no way of reviewing the thread, so I hit submit anyway. Post not there, and scrolling down there was nothing. Only way to get what I wrote was to hit the back button.

As you say, strange. There must be something a bit different on your phone or its browser to cause this otherwise everyone would be reporting it.

The problem is that its not easy to reliably recreate.

But at least you noticed and found your post was still there by hitting the back button.
