PUSH Notifications

Post by The Kaptain »

Along with updating the Kabins software to the latest version, I have also installed a PUSH notification extension for those who find it useful.

If you know how that work then it should all be intuitive to you, if you have never used them before, don't look for me for help as neither have I.

The default setting is 'off' and you enable them by going to your UCP

This extension is 'work in progress' from the phpBB team so may still have bugs, should you encounter any issues please let me know with as much detail as possible including OS and browser builds so that I inform the team. Thanks

Cool, the private message one is useful. Is it possible to have a push notification for topics we create only, rather than all subscribed ones?

I thought that there was but I can not seem to find it :smt017

You can always subscribe to individual topics using the dropdown at the foot of the topic and then set notifications for subscribed topics. Not as convenient as a 'one click' solution but it will suffice

EDIT I was thinking of the 'Notify me upon replies by default:' option, which will notify you of any reply to any post you have made

Trouble with all subscribed topics is you'd tend to be inundated. For example, a push notification for replies to a classified ad would be great, but not the listening now one!
The second option will only notify if your post is actually quoted?

You don't have to subscribe to ALL topics to get notifications. Look at the foot of this one and click the spanner, click subscribe and you will be subscribed to this topic, but not the others in this forum.

Yes, I get that. What I was referring to is that if you're subscribed to a topic doesn't necessarily mean you want push notifications for it. Being subscribed to lots, you'll get lots of pushing which isn't necessarily desirable. Your own topics though would be.

OK I get what you mean now.

I will investigate further, but I don't think that it would be easy to have a separate notification group for topics you started

I have just updated this extension to the latest version

You can now enable or disable having the Subscribe toggle in the notifications dropdown.

Stop pandering Kaptain. :smt018
Other forums don’t even allow a new topic so you’ve well bent over backwards if it’s not good enough by now it never will be. :smt009

Updated to version 1.0.0-RC10

Highlighted changes:
  • Apple iPhones and iPads now supported (after the user adds the site to their home screen).
  • Better indications when the server, the browser or the devices may not be able to support push notifications.
