I identified the next issue with my speakers.

I just played a playlist and skipped from one track to the next. Thereby I noticed a soft click (I seem to be really trained on them by now :mrg: )
Hopefully a known issue and one that can corrected via a firmware update. Hard to imagine this wasn’t heard by the folks at Linn during the speakers’ development.

Each time I skip to another track, the same click occurs, most obvious if you just click through the playlist without actually listening to a track or very briefly only. You have to turn the volume a bit up to notice it. In my case it starts with volume 70 or above, with 69 or below it is not - isn’t that wierd?

Can you confirm?
I listened very carefully to the recordings. I tried to duplicate with my system. I have to say that I don't hear anything, just dead silence.

P.S. I stopped the music a few minutes ago. I have since heard a rather mechanical sounding click first from the left, then from the right, and another from the left. I'll sit here and listen for more as things cool down. Again, it occurs like thermal expansion/contraction.

Baba Yaga wrote: Fri Sep 27, 2024 12:17 pm The sound when changing tracks has been confirmed by Linn.
The explanation is as follows:
*****
At higher volume levels (70+) the power amp in the 360 module requires and uses a higher voltage rail than at lower volume levels. This is by design to provide optimal, efficient performance.
When you skip between tracks the DSM ramps down and ramps back up the Volume as part of the track skip process. In an Exakt set up this information is passed on to the Exakt Speaker.
Doing this with volume settings 70+ results in the power amp within the 360 going from the lower to higher voltage rails. It is this action which results in the faintly audible sound experienced.
This is why it is not experienced at lower volume levels.
It is a characteristic of the design and technology rather than a fault and in normal operation at a normal listening position is unnoticeable and unintrusive.
*****
In my case it is however audible from my listening spot (that is why I noticed it in the first place), so obviously something is not as it should be.
I also recorded two more examples of clicks while playing music and mailed them to Linn.
We will see…

In my humble opinion. :smt036

Do Linn explain why it's necessary for the DSM to ramp the volume down between tracks? Or is it only when you skip? In which case, why is it necessary then
but not between tracks?

@Baba Yaga what is your normal listening volume at which you hear the click?

The explanation sounds feasible to me, the switch to a different rail probably will also occur while turning up volume while listening to a track (but of course is not audible then).
But to switch rails instantly? I'd have thought a reasonable design would include some kind of hysteresis.

I normally don't DS above the 60s range so I've never experienced the noise. I can give it a try later. Having coffee now and not ready for some loud music. Been listening to LPs in the 72 to 74 range. I recently went up to 76. Wow! The 360s just come to life at higher volumes. Seems the detail and sound stage effect are really enhanced at high volume. I still can't get over how good the 360s are.

Just had a listen DSing at volume level 72. I skipped tracks and was able to hear a faint click between tracks. This is from the listening position 3 meters away. I never would've noticed it had I not been listening for it.

I'm sorry but he did well. Joking at first is funny but continuing to laugh is not. I Hope he comes back.
