The "Why I don't vote in the KAOTM" Poll

Post by The Kaptain »

Despite many attempts to make the voting easier there is still a poor turnout and It would be useful to know why, and if it is worth while continuing having the KAOTM so please could everyone take the time to vote in this poll, and feel free to give suggestions on how we can get more people to take part. For reference there were 64 members entitled to vote for the duration of last months poll only 7 of which voted.
Please note that all votes are entirely anonymous.

For me it is a bit of fun and before I vote I look at all of the pages each month to decide how to vote. It also helps me to explore new music as enjoyed by everyone on here so my music collection and tastes get expanded. I like the KAOTM :smt023

I do vote but not every time.. I think the issue is only a very few post on the listening thread. Probably the same 7 that vote! And maybe 5 albums is too many?
I use the notes to remind myself what I posted too. Perhaps it's too much of a faff for some? Or many.
The poll will tell us!

I think I’ve voted every month since I joined and qualified. However, I’ve just realised that I forgot to vote last month, so my continuous record is now broken :smt009

I'm afraid my musical taste is a couple of standard deviations from the norm. Therefore, I can't really relate to most of the choices in the polls.

My two penny'worth... I reckon that 7 out of 64 eligible to vote is not, in itself, a bad turnout for things such as these. There are plenty of "what are you listening to" places "Linn Sondek LP12 facebook" page for one, this place seems to me to be more people chatting about the kit rather than the music (not in itself a bad thing).

I voted this time around (first time, inspired by a chat with Dan on the what are you listening to thread which, I admit, I don't really follow that much). I think I would agree with one of the suggestions here, don't mandate five choices; allow anything from one to five maybe?

Exactly what i do, and I leave it till as late as I can so I get all posts for that month to choose from. Backfired on me this month as we were minding our two granddaughters aged 2 &3 who completely ransacked our home and I forgot to vote being worn out. I noticed no jazz albums this month :smt017

100% agree. Question is, how do we get us "Linnies" chatting about music rather than boxes? I'll make a start and be more active on the "what are we listening to" threads

Not what you want to hear Kaptain but Akamatsu pretty much sums up my thoughts. I have voted in the past and will vote again but I prefer to vote when I recognise a good number of artists/albums.

So why not post in the "What Are You Listening To ... " topic and then you will have a choice. It does not matter if anyone else has posted the same artist or album or not.

Its a great way to introduce everyone to artists they may not have heard before.

Dan,
I accept I am not a prolific poster on this or any of the other forums of which I am a member. I prefer to post when I have something relevant and (hopefully) informative to say.
You will notice I do post on the "What have you been listening to" thread. Although I HEAR and enjoy music every day I only post when I have actively sat down, specifically chosen music, and LISTENED to it. My musical taste do not coincide with at least 80% of the artists that get posted on here and that is absolutely fine as the joy of music is everyones tastes are different - I accept I am an outlier on here.
As to "what is the point of your comment" - WE WERE ASKED!!!! I could have just ignored the request but felt that Akamatsu comment pretty much summed up where I stood so I agreed with him - perhaps I shouldn't have bothered.
One thing that I have posted about before is the lack of a simple option to 'like' a post. I think this would be particularly useful for the 'listening' thread. Yes I could reply to a post and say "lives here too..." or similar (I do occasionally when I see an album that I like and I am surprised someone else does too) but I personally think this leads to a cluttered thread which doesn't flow very nicely. If a particular post attracts a lot of likes maybe a shortlist could be drawn up which would concentrate votes rather than having a long tail of albums with only a single vote. Just a suggestion made with a positive intention...

PS @Wenge1 sorry to hear you are not well. Hope you get better soon though it sounds from your comments that it could well be a long haul.
