The running of this forum done voluntarily is more labour intensive than many appreciate so the never ending tally of likes and deciding what they were designated for is far too much work.
The like button has been tried and designated the “Lazy” button as it did not encourage active discussion.
Hence a reply is more constructive and respectful.
People having different tastes should not be put off as others may have that out there preference then discover that there are other like minded online.
Boring old jazz farts like me.
Nothing to stop anyone sharing their enjoyment and voting for your own.
Don’t really see the point of the HIFI if love of music isn’t the main thing.
Otherwise it’s just a “Top Trumps”collection of gear. :smt017

Not what you want to hear Kaptain but Akamatsu pretty much sums up my thoughts. I have voted in the past and will vote again but I prefer to vote when I recognise a good number of artists/albums.
It’s great that people take the time to post on their music choice of playing. I think there are plenty of good artists/albums posted every month to choose from. If not you can post your own stuff you are listening to and vote for your it. But you two really post so what’s the point of your comment :smt017
Dan,
I accept I am not a prolific poster on this or any of the other forums of which I am a member. I prefer to post when I have something relevant and (hopefully) informative to say.
You will notice I do post on the "What have you been listening to" thread. Although I HEAR and enjoy music every day I only post when I have actively sat down, specifically chosen music, and LISTENED to it. My musical taste do not coincide with at least 80% of the artists that get posted on here and that is absolutely fine as the joy of music is everyones tastes are different - I accept I am an outlier on here.
As to "what is the point of your comment" - WE WERE ASKED!!!! I could have just ignored the request but felt that Akamatsu comment pretty much summed up where I stood so I agreed with him - perhaps I shouldn't have bothered.
One thing that I have posted about before is the lack of a simple option to 'like' a post. I think this would be particularly useful for the 'listening' thread. Yes I could reply to a post and say "lives here too..." or similar (I do occasionally when I see an album that I like and I am surprised someone else does too) but I personally think this leads to a cluttered thread which doesn't flow very nicely. If a particular post attracts a lot of likes maybe a shortlist could be drawn up which would concentrate votes rather than having a long tail of albums with only a single vote. Just a suggestion made with a positive intention...

PS @Wenge1 sorry to hear you are not well. Hope you get better soon though it sounds from your comments that it could well be a long haul.
Thanks for your kind words on my health front. My comments were around don't worry about not posting because you think your an outlier. I would encourage you to post about the music that your sitting down and listening to. Some of us do a search when we read about music we have never heard of and then take a listen. Of course, if you don't fancy posting about the music you are listening to then that's fine too but you don't have worry about what others may or may not be thinking about what you like. All you have to do is post what you’re listening to and then vote for it! It might help if you say why you like what you’re playing too so that others might be spurred on to give it a try.

Thats the whole point of this poll. If you can not be bothered to vote thats one thing, but if theres a reason (eg you find having to choose 5 albums too restrictive) then I need to know

Apologies in advance for incredibly stupid incoming question:

To vote in the KAOTM poll is it limited to submitting five albums of mine onto the list, or am I able to look at what others have submitted and vote on those?

You can vote for any albums which any member has posted in the month. However, I always feel that it should be an album that I have listened to in the month. In some cases I see that someone else has posted an album which prompts me to give it a listen. I might not then post it myself, but in that case I feel I could vote for it. Of course, you’re not going to get arrested for selecting something you’ve not listened to, so it’s up to you really.

I would find it far easier to replace my hifi than music collection. On rare occasions when I have been invited to listen to a system and give my opinion I have found I’m no good at it. I simply end up seeing they have some great music and ask can we play that.

I usually vote and frequently look at the “Listening” thread. There are some really interesting clips of music I wouldn’t otherwise encounter.

Exactly, as long as it appears in the current months "What we are listening to ... " topic it does not matter who voted for it.

I had around 4 Jazz albums before I joined this forum. I now have loads although it's very much skewed towards smooth Jazz. I also have over 100 Classical albums but my first love will always be rock and pop which form the majority of my collection.

My musical tastes are all over the shop to be honest. I like and occasionally play and post Leonard Cohen albums for which I will usually get told to cheer up especially if it's two or more in a row  Just makes me want to play more 8)
But then again I like ABBA too and I'm huge fan of AC/DC and The Beatles etc etc etc - See even Gilbert and Sullivan are getting a look in :smt005

I retreated from this site some time back but still look in. I now try to offer help and/or suggestions when I think I can offer help. I had already stopped voting, if memory serves me correctly, after the album of the year list contained one album from this century. I still don’t see new albums cropping but do look to see what Dan Steel and Wenge especially are listening to. I found that I was one of the few putting new music up on here. I switched to wigwam and I see a few others off here posting on there as well. So as I don’t post don’t see the point of voting.
Sorry to hear of Wenge1’s ill health and hope you get well soon.
