Qobuz Changes

Post by Scooter »

Not sure the full extent of what this means but just had this email from Qobuz…
“We would like to inform you of important changes concerning Qobuz services and the updating of our general conditions of use and sale.
Certain works available on Qobuz may be removed from the Service for legal reasons. Indeed, to respect our commitments and guarantee the protection of intellectual property in music, we will have to prevent access to certain titles, both for downloading and streaming.
In these particular cases, from the withdrawal date, titles already purchased by customers on the Qobuz Store can no longer be re-downloaded.
No action is required on your part, but we always recommend downloading your purchases as soon as possible.
By continuing to use our services, you agree to the automatic updating of the new conditions as of October”

There has always been some music that hasn’t been available to stream including The Beatles who changed to allow streaming a few years back. This is going to be interesting to see what goes and what stays. Is there a business push here to reduce streaming? Interested to see if Spotify or Apple announce something similar.

I don't see it as I push against streaming. They are including downloads in that statement, which might affect me and others who don't subscribe.

I found it odd that albums on Qobuz were streamable but couldn't be downloaded, especially when you could download from 7digital.
That could be a regional restriction I suppose.

Well, at least they've told me which albums I've bought that won't be available for re-download from 1st October. Only one. But not all for that artist.
Curiouser and Curiouser 🤔

Just had the email seven for me out of about 500. No pattern in it at all. For example one Wilco album out of about ten.
