Re: Linn Majik 150
There was always a lot of commentary on the appearance of new Linn products. I still remember the canvas of the fifth series, which was thought to resemble a fallen condom. Or the volume knob of the new Klimax….
Now I don't hear much negative about the appearance of the 150 and 119. That means, I think, that most people like them.
I liked the white ones and the walnut.
But the shape...

The new 150s have some new tech developed from the 360s. A brand new speaker none of us have auditioned. None of us can accurately state the 150s are “this much better/worse than Speaker ABC…”

Truth. No one will say that either.
But there will be no one who believes that a 150 will sound better than a 606

Re: Linn Majik 150
Anything can be compared however you do have to take the price into play for most speakers , The 606's are twice the price of the 150''s and 4 X compared to the M140s. There are few free lunches our there and you get what you pay for plus or minus 10%.PeterAlligator wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 3:24 pm Presumably the two cannot be compared when it comes to sound quality.
You can compare, but would it be fair?

Re: Linn Majik 150
For what it is worth a guy on the Naim forum just spent four hours listening to the new 150s (along side other Linn speakers) and offered the following:
“… more dynamic punchy slightly brightly lit ,superb Bass…did I say SUPERB BASS…”

Re: Linn Majik 150
I went from Keilidhs to Akudoriks (and a sub) and now thinking of going back to floor standers. The 150’s could be a good fit for me with my Selekt Edition and Organic DAC power amp. Going to get a demo at my dealers alongside a pair of ATC SMC40’s. Price-wise they are comparable. Not sure how easy the Selekt will drive the ATC’s but I am sure the Selekt will be fine with the 150’s. Either speaker could be a downgrade from what I already have, will have to wait and see.
Incidentally, why is this thread called Majik 150? I have not seen any reference to the 150’s being in the Majik range on any emails I have received from Linn or in any other promotional info.

Re: Linn Majik 150
I think with the addition of the new power amps and the Selekt range the old Majik/Akurate/Klimax nomenclature is fading?
But you are right the new 150 speakers and not called Majik 150s. If you found the Akudoriks lacked bass then the 150s will be worth auditioning. One report I read said the bass is great with the 150s.
I hope to audition them this week or as soon as possible…

Re: Linn Majik 150
Absolutely, there is no way I could say if the 150 was equal to, better or worse than my current speakers as I have not heard them. I would really need to hear them at home in my system to make any assessment.
And even if I did the home audition and declared the 150 was the best speaker I had heard would my personal view be of value to anyone else. I think the only way is hear for yourself,
That said, should I care whether I have the best, as long as I can enjoy the music isn’t that all that matters?

I was meaning that comparing the 150s with any of the Titans wasn't a fair comparison. The latter are isobaric for one thing.Bianconero wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 5:25 pmThe Super 20 are now at the end of production, the 150 are fresh just exit from oven. And I most certainly was convinced by the Super20s. Love 'em.

Re: Linn Majik 150
Got a report on the 150s from a dealer yesterday. They were fronted by the new Selekt Classic with three Organik equipped stereo amps in Exakt configuration. Not an improvement on the Majik 140s, rather a complete departure. Lots more detail, refinement. The most impressive feature as reported was the bass, much more of it. Overall, he was very impressed.

Re: Linn Majik 150
Read that the new speakers have the drivers mounted more like the 360s.
From Linn:
“Drive units are mounted at the front of the baffle with no grille to minimise occlusion and enhance excursion, drawing on insights from our flagship 360 loudspeakers.”
This should increase dispersion. I’m currently enjoying a Majik system with 109 speakers. I guess I’d gotten used to the superior dispersion and imaging of the 360s as it’s very much missing with the 109s. If the 150s provide some of this feature, they could be a game changer outperforming more expensive speakers.

I’d like to know how they sound in passive mode too because exakted version is quite expensive with organic

I auditioned the 150s this past Saturday at Loud and Clear Audio in Glasgow: they are a clear winner. The crossover is much more precise than anything Linn have had previous to this in their entry level speakers.
