Bought a rare film and received a DVD-R.
I bought a rare film 'Betrayal', a film adaptation of the Harold Pinter play, starring Ben Kinsley, Jeremy Irons and Patricia Hodge (1983) from
http://www.vicpine.co.uk
I have received a DVD-R, which for £16 I must say I am less than impressed about. I don't have much faith in DVD-Rs lasting more than a couple of years.
There is no specific information on the website to say if an individual film is a DVD or DVD-R. I haven't played it yet, if it works I will keep it, and probably make a copy myself, but I wouldn't buy anything from the website again.
Will chuck it in the DVD/Blu-ray to check now.

Jamie,
Is vic there ?
I'd be on the dog and bone I can't stand it when people are economical with the truth if you know what your getting then fine and roll the dice but not to tell and have your hopes up for a produced film is a disappointment.
I recently had a couple of CDs sent back to Amazon. and CDbaby as they sent me CDRs without telling me.
When I get a CD from any of them direct my receipt always says special instructions "NO CDRs" seems to have worked so far.

From their POLICY page.
"Film copyrights:
All the films in our catalog are supplied as original region 2 or region 0 dvds. There are a few films we can supply on dvd-r format where we have obtained permission from the existing copyright holder. We are currently updating our catalog to comply with FACT and BBFC regulations. In all cases where you see a title for sale unavailable elsewhere it is either in the public domain (where copyright ownership no longer applies) or we have been granted permission by a principal copyright holder."
Ask them to prove it ........

Re: Bought a rare film and received a DVD-R.
I'm not in the mood for a fight right now (especially after losing out cat China today), but I will email and offer to pay postage, but ask to return for a refund.
I have the film on VHS, but no player at the moment, and I also got an .avi file of the film, slightly better quality than the one I received, from a well know torrent site (with Pirate in the name).
That £16 would have been better put towards a new VHS player from Ebay frankly.
Thanks for the replies, good to know that I am not being too picky over things.

Re: Bought a rare film and received a DVD-R.
It might be worth asking them for more clarity in their descriptions as you already have the VHS copy and hoped for a 'proper' dio release rather than a transfer that you could have done yourself.

I would report them to trading standards.

They are happy to refund when I return the disc, although did say "Well dvd-r is dvd.", which isn't a statement I would agree with.
In the post tomorrow if I get chance.

Re: Bought a rare film and received a DVD-R.
There is a DVD info page which tells you everything you need to know before you buy about the dvds. When you make a purchase you are also told you can return it for a refund, no questions asked.
There would be no "fight".
Chris.

Wow, close to seven years to reply. Looks like someone was bored enough on a Sunday afternoon to probably search google, join the Kabin and reply to a thread that was dead.
